Powerfuel

To drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, low-emission alternatives are needed for all energy sectors.

The PowerFuel project pursues the production of CO2-neutral fuels, also called e-fuels, according to the "power-to-fuel" concept. To this end, partners Climeworks, Ineratec, Siemens, and the KIT Institute of Micro Process Engineering set up and operate an integrated process chain at Energy Lab 2.0. The research focuses on the production of synthetic kerosene from the process chain via hydrogen from PEM electrolysis and CO2 extracted from the air.

Further partners in the project are the German Aerospace Center, Aviation Fuel Projects Consulting, Bauhaus Luftfahrt and the Technical University of Hamburg.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Duration of the project: 12/2018 - 11/2021.
